Session 5: Exploring your Beliefs in the Era of Coronavirus
Beliefs make up our brain software. Science has determined that we think in between 50,000 to 80,000 thoughts a day and 70% of them is unsupportive. Thoughts come from beliefs. While it is impossible to be aware and manage each thought, beliefs can be changed, and when we do so, hundreds or thousands of thoughts change with them. Beliefs act as brain filters and allow people to make sense of the world around them. Because the majority of thoughts (and beliefs) is negative, this inevitably affects the performance and overall wellbeing of individuals and their communities. As we are literally bombarded by “bad” and “scary” news, we have the power to decide what to believe and the filters we use to make sense of what is happening to us. When we are mindful of our believes and make deliberate choices to use brain filters that will help us and the world, we build resilience. This workout focuses on surfacing unsupportive, self-defeating beliefs and, through a simple and effective format, change them into supportive ones. When the individual workout is coupled with a collective commitment toward that effort, results are faster, more effective, and contagious.
